Follow these steps if you are installing just a Force Fleet Tracking device (without an extra cable). For users who also need heavy duty cables, see the second set of instructions, below.
Normal installation:
- Locate the OBD-II port in your vehicle (usually under the dashboard near the steering wheel).
- With your vehicle turned off, carefully insert your Force device into the port.
- After 20 seconds or so, the lights should both be green: Power should be solid green and Network should be blinking green.
- Start your vehicle and go for a short drive (5-10 minutes) in an area with good GPS reception. (Avoid checking your phone while driving.) This should be enough time for the device to register.
- Once you are parked, check your Force Fleet Tracking dashboard online (GPS Fleet Tracking for Small Business | Force Fleet Tracking ) to confirm that your first trip was recorded. If it doesn’t appear, see What do I do if the Force dashboard does not show any trip data?
Installation including heavy duty cables:
These instruction are for users with Class 6 and higher vehicles that require heavy duty cables to connect an OBD device to their vehicles. The cables should have come with your Force Fleet Tracking devices when you made your order. If you don't have cables but need them, please contact customerservice@forcefleettracking.com.
- Connect the Force OBD device to the OBD end of the HD cable (if you feel it necessary, secure the connection with electrical tape; try not to cover the label).
- With your vehicle turned off, carefully connect the other end of the cable to your vehicle’s port.*
- Once the cables are connected, secure the device under the dash. We recommend zip-tying to a secure fixture.

*If the cable you have does not fit into the port, stop. You may have the wrong cable for your vehicle. Take a picture of your vehicle’s port and send it to us at customerservice@forcefleettracking.com. We will get you the right cable. Here are the typical heavy duty cables in use:
